- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 baguette or French bread loaf, sliced in half lengthwise
- 4 tbsp butter, melted
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10–15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter and minced garlic. Spread this mixture evenly over the cut sides of the baguette or French bread loaf.
- Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes to slightly toast.
- Remove the bread from the oven and spread the sloppy joe mixture over the toasted bread.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top.
- Return the bread to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
- You can use mozzarella, cheddar, or a blend of both for the cheese.
- Optional: Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
- Best served immediately while warm and crisp.
