- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 onion, finely diced
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup yellow mustard
- 1 bag (32 oz) frozen French fries
- Optional toppings: diced pickles, chopped tomatoes, lettuce, or extra cheese for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
- In a skillet, cook the ground beef with the diced onion over medium-high heat until browned. Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Drain any excess fat and transfer the meat mixture to the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef.
- In a bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, ketchup, and mustard. Pour this mixture over the beef and cheese.
- Evenly layer the frozen French fries on top.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25–30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for 10–15 minutes more, until fries are crispy and the cheese is melted.
- Let rest a few minutes before serving. Top with optional garnishes like pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, or more cheese.
Notes
- Swap cream of mushroom for cream of cheddar or cream of onion if preferred.
- You can assemble the casserole ahead and bake later.
- Great for using up leftover French fries or ground beef.
